Koala beach towel fundraiser !

Regular price $30.00 Sale

OTB students, Hayden and Halle, have thoughtfully created these Koala paintings, to raise money to help the wildlife in Australia currently suffering from recent forest fires. Their custom artwork has been transferred to beach towels that you can purchase to help their efforts!  All profits will go directly towards rehabilitating Koalas and other animals as well as reforestation.

We thought these towels would also be a good reminder in the summer to always be mindful of your human impact when camping or at the beach, to always put out your fires and not leave trash. Hang your towel when showering to remember to consume less water. Always do your part and be careful not to endanger our beautiful forests and animals.

‘Australia’s devastating fires this season have been a wildlife disaster with thousands of acres of animal habitat burned and billions of animals losing their lives. The ones that did survive face loss of their homes and starvation. The wounded animals will need treatment of burns for months, long after the news headlines have faded.

According to the Australian Koala Foundation, as few as 43,000 koalas are left in the wild in Australia and their numbers continue to decline. There is not currently any legislation in any part of the country that protects the marsupials or their habitats.

Koalas are listed as "Vulnerable" under the Environmental Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act. Their survival is being majorly threatened.

Research conducted by the AKF strongly suggests the Koala’s conservation status should be upgraded to “Critically endangered” in the South East Queensland Bioregion as the Queensland Minister for the Environment has declared them to be “functionally extinct”.

Typically, many koalas have been able to survive bushfires by climbing to the tops of trees and curling into a ball. But if a fire is not contained, it can wipe out entire colonies. It may take decades to recover the population lost in these fires.’
